As one of many developing
projects, METL is presently putting up a state-of-the-art
edible oil refinery; a fractionation plant and a soap
manufacturing plant close to the harbour jetty in Dar es
Salaam.

Liquid Storage Ltd
This facility will store vegetable oil in bulk as well as
liquid caustic soda. The bulk vegetable oil storage capacity
will be 26,000 cum, comprising of 12 tanks of various
capacities. The liquid caustic soda storage capacity will be
10,800 cum (comprising) of four tanks. The crude oil, to be
imported from Malaysia and Indonesia, will be pumped into
these storage facilities directly from the ship. The storage
facilities will be used for in-house requirements as well as
for storing other products. This project is expected to be
completed by June 2006.

Oils and Fats Ltd
This comprises of two plants: the Physical Refinery and Dry
Fractionation Plant (PRDFP) and the Soap Plant (SP).
The PRDFP is expected to be a
modern plant totally automatic and computer controlled. The
Physical Refinery will have a capacity to refine 500 mtons
per day of crude palm oil whereas the Dry Fractionation
Plant will have a capacity to fractionate 600 mtons per day
of refined bleached and deodorised palm oil, with provision
to expand to 750 mtons per day in future. The entire
facility is expected to go on stream by March 2006.
The SP is expected to have four lines of manufacturing
laundry soap and one line for producing toilet soap. The
total capacity of the four lines for the laundry soap is
expected to be 6,000 mtons of finished soap per month and
for the toilet soap, it is expected to be 750 mtons per
month. The SP is
estimated to be on stream by July 2006.

Star Oils Ltd
This is again a bulk storage facility, but for storing
petroleum products such as petrol, diesel and kerosene. The
total capacity at this site is expected to be 31,000 cum
with provision of adding 20,000 cum at a later stage.
Petroleum products from the ship at the jetty will be pumped
in directly into these storage tanks. The facility is
envisaged for storing petroleum products for distribution
companies. The bulk storage facility is expected to be ready
by July 2006.
