 Exports and Crop Procurement

METL is one of Tanzania’s largest and most important trading houses. The company’s main export commodities encompass both traditional and non-traditional crops, sourced from commercial and peasant farmers across the country.

These include agricultural produce such as pigeon peas, cashewnuts (raw and kernels), bees wax, cocoa, gum arabic, yellow gram, sesame seeds, castor seeds, green mong, cardamom seeds, teak logs, and sisal fibres (see pictures below).

The company also has its own plantations and industries for processing sisal and cashewnuts (more detail is provided on these in the manufacturing section of this brochure). These goods are marketed within Tanzania and exported to neighbouring African countries and further afield as far as India, Japan, the Middle East, Turkey, Thailand, the USA, Pakistan, Algeria and other countries.

METL’s extended network of offices, 40 sales outlets around Dar es Salaam and 27 upcountry branches scattered all over Tanzania affords it the unique advantage not only for marketing of imported products, but also for sourcing and procuring the agricultural produce required by its foreign buyers for exports.
