METL acquired National Bicycles
Company Ltd (NABICO) in 2003 in technical collaboration with
Avon Cycles Limited of India. METL’s wide distribution network,
combined with the technical know-how of one of India’s leading
bicycle manufacturers has yielded dramatic results within just a
year. Sales have gone up to
more
than 5,000 bicycles per month from a mere 200 to 300 before
acquisition.
NABICO’s simple
strategy is to supply quality bicycles at competitive prices to
the people of Tanzania and neighbouring African countries.
Modern production practices combined
with economical procurement of inputs have made the NABICO
bicycles very competitive. The company is in the process of
introducing new models including children’s bicycles, ladies’
bicycles, sports bicycles and electrically driven bicycles.
Major emphasis is also being put on production of heavy duty
bicycles, which are specially suited for carrying heavy loads in
rural areas. |
