METL has been promoting football for almost 10 years and it is well-known as one of the main sponsors for Simba Football Club since 1998. Simba Sports Club is the leading football club in Tanzania today, having won the National Championships for 5 times and the East and Central African Championships 3 times, since 1998. METL has undoubtedly played a major role in its rise by sponsoring salaries of players, coaches, sports gear, jerseys, boots and bags. This support has paid off when Simba upset one of the favourites in the African Cup in 2003. Appointments of coaches such as Trot Maloto from South Africa (who has experience of assisting and coaching World Cup teams) is an ample testimony to METL’S commitment to tremendously improve football standards in Tanzania. The long-term goal is to make Tanzania a reckoning force in football at the international level. METL’s aggregate sponsorship to Simba in the last 7 years has amounted to more than 1 billion Tsh.
